Note on pacing and storytelling:
Coming from a filmmaking background, I approach short-form pacing through story structure and rhythm. Even in a 30 second piece, every beat should introduce a shift: a new piece of information, emotion, or visual energy that moves the narrative forward.
Sometimes it’s even embracing negative emotion with redemption arcs with the right timing. Luke blowing up the Death Star wouldn’t be as satisfying of payoff without the abandonment of Han Solo and the death of Obi-Wan.
For me, pacing isn’t about duration; it’s about momentum. The rhythm of cuts, performance, and sound should constantly reward attention, so the viewer feels carried through a clear arc rather than watching isolated moments. Good short-form storytelling compresses cinematic structure into a tight cadence that keeps curiosity alive from the first frame to the last.
